Here is the untold story of old "666" The is undoubtedly one of the most heroic flights ever accomplished during WWII.
In 1943 Old 666, serial #'s 12666, had suffered substantial battle damage and had acquired a reputation as a cursed bomber, many times coming back from missions with a lot of damage. It was placed at the end of the runway where other airmen could strip it for needed parts. A friend of the famed pilot said to him, "I know where there’s a bomber, but no one will fly it anymore because every time it goes out it gets shot to hell!"
